Summary

In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be "positive" all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people。

For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life。 "F**k positivity," Mark Manson says。 "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it。" In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate。 He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today。 The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected American society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up。

Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better。 Human beings are flawed and limited—"not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault。" Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them。 Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek。

There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear。 While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience。 A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives。

5/5 everyone NEEDS to read this book。 I swear I think about something I’ve taken away from it every single day。 Probably the most profound thing I’ve ever read and definitely changed my mindset in such a positive way。 READ IT :))

Some good points。 I did not like the author’s tone from time to time, especially when he adopts this ‘cool’, tough love coach persona - unnecessary and felt condescending。

Yassmine

Finished in little time, interesting point of view life, death, pain and happiness。

I was not expecting this to be as good as it was, definitely one of my favorites now。

I’ve been following this guy on Twitter for ages。 He’s like a modern day Nietzsche! Totally agree with everything in the book, but I feel like his target audience is lowkey businesspeople in their 30s who partied their lives away。 (So maybe I’ll revisit in 10 years)

This non fiction book is nothing but author's incoherent attempt to convey that just don't give a fuck about things you don't care。 Literally, I didn't give a fuck about this book after reading first few pages。 ITS BOOORING AND OVERRATED This non fiction book is nothing but author's incoherent attempt to convey that just don't give a fuck about things you don't care。 Literally, I didn't give a fuck about this book after reading first few pages。 ITS BOOORING AND OVERRATED 。。。more

I like the way how he started the book and that it is giving a realistic view of life, that problems are part of our life, but somehow I expected more。

The second time i read this。 Still love it。 Sometimes i am going back to giving fucks to something meaningless and unproductive shit instead prioritizing the meaningful and useful opportunities in front of me。 What a reminder!

Love the early and mid chapter towards the end, many good points to think about, but the story of every chapter kinda too long and boring。

For many days we are being told that ‘be Positive’ or else ‘positive thinking’ is the key to success along with happy life, healthy life。 But the author Mark Manson in his New York Times Bestseller book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k tells us "F**k positivity,"。 "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked, and we have to live with it。" He describes that how avoiding failure is something that we learn at some later point in life。 I can also quote from the book “Improvement at anything is based on thous For many days we are being told that ‘be Positive’ or else ‘positive thinking’ is the key to success along with happy life, healthy life。 But the author Mark Manson in his New York Times Bestseller book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k tells us "F**k positivity,"。 "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked, and we have to live with it。" He describes that how avoiding failure is something that we learn at some later point in life。 I can also quote from the book “Improvement at anything is based on thousands of tiny failures, and the magnitude of your success is based on how many times you’ve failed at something。” 。。。more

。。。more

I agree with Sillerdis that it's a book about common sense。The key to a good life is not giving a fuck about more; it's giving a fuck about less, giving a fuck about only what is true and immediate and important。 The more you want to be something (rich, loved, smart, pretty), the less you feel that you are that。 You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of。 No truly happy person feels the need to stand in front of a mirror and recite that she's happy。 She just I agree with Sillerdis that it's a book about common sense。The key to a good life is not giving a fuck about more; it's giving a fuck about less, giving a fuck about only what is true and immediate and important。 The more you want to be something (rich, loved, smart, pretty), the less you feel that you are that。 You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of。 No truly happy person feels the need to stand in front of a mirror and recite that she's happy。 She just is。 We are wired to become dissatisfied with whatever we have and satisfied by only what we do not have。You can't win if you don't play。 To be successful, you have to fail, try again, take risks, feel uncertainty, put in a lot of hours etc。 To find love, you have to be out there, flirt, get rejected etc。 To get fit, you have to exercise, check and change your eating habits, suffer from unmotivation etc。 You should enjoy not only the victory but the process as well。 Or you should endure the suffering if it is a greater cause for you。 We all get dealt cards。 Some of us get better cards than others。 And while it's easy to get hung up on our cards, and feel  we got screwed over, the real game lies in the choices we make with those cards, the risks we decide to take, and the consequences we choose to live with。  。。。more

This book was loaded。 On the positive side, it inspired me to get out in the world and start living rather than reading about living。 The last chapter had me floored, taking in deep breath after deep breath to remind myself that I, too, was alive。 On the negative side, this book conveyed anxiety as narcissism, and was difficult to pick up for a while。 If not for the final chapter, I would stick with three stars。 The final chapter of this book, though, is something that I believe everyone, regard This book was loaded。 On the positive side, it inspired me to get out in the world and start living rather than reading about living。 The last chapter had me floored, taking in deep breath after deep breath to remind myself that I, too, was alive。 On the negative side, this book conveyed anxiety as narcissism, and was difficult to pick up for a while。 If not for the final chapter, I would stick with three stars。 The final chapter of this book, though, is something that I believe everyone, regardless of their walk of life, should read。 In the retelling of things that I already knew but needed to be reminded of, a solid 4/5。 。。。more
